REOS 125: 125 Years of the Gotthardbahn

On the 1st of June 1882, the first train ran over the Gotthard Railway. On the 1st and 2nd of June 2007, REOS visited the Gotthard and filmed the historic train that took part in remembrance of the opening of the line. Historic steam locos A 3/5 and C 5/6 rerun this historic moment by hauling old passenger stock over this famous mountain line.
We start at Wassen, witnessed by many spectators the steam train climbs the 3 levels in the pouring rain. We make a short visit to Göschenen to witness the “Suppenhald”. We then continue to Airolo. While descending a green Re 4/4II keeps an eye on the rear of the train. Thru' the Biaschina, we arrive at Biasca where we witness a spectacular departure.
On the 2nd June we start with a view from the tower at Erstfeld.
We then go back to the Biaschina to witness the steam train in full action climbing the loops. The RAe TEE is also on the run. Thru'
Rodi-Fiasso we finally call at the churchyard of Wassen to view the last scenes of this unique train.
While waiting for the steam train regular passenger and freight trains are shown. This results in a variety of trains during changing weather conditions. The steam engine 50 3673 of club 41 073 was also running and will make an appropriate whistle at the end of the film.
Due to the great amount of spectators there are now and then camera clicks and other background noises notable. REOS only uses original sound recordings without any commentary or music. Maps are added to locate camera positions.
Running time: 61 minuten DVDR. Stereo/Dolby®-surround.
