REOS 090: Morteratsch winter 2010 - 100 years Bernina

DVDR: € 18,00  £ 12.50

In February 2010 REOS stayed at Morteratsch hotel which is situated on the Bernina line in Southern Switzerland.

The Bernina line was opened on 5th July 1910 and celebrated its centenary in 2010. With grades up to 7% its one of the steepest adhesion railway lines in the world and reaches an altitude of 2253 meters above see level making it the highest railway line over the Alps. It has been owned by the RhB since 1944 and on 7th July 2008 it became a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The film is made around the Hotel of Morteratsch, which is situated at the foot of the glacier of the same name. Its well known for walking and skiing due to its scenic surroundings.

The station is right in front of the hotel terrace. We begin at the hotel early in the morning when it is quiet with some fresh snow. We then visit Pontresina station returning to the hotel later when it is crowded and has a winter sports atmosphere. We then follow the line to Diavolleza where we see the work on the big Igloo which houses the display of 100 years of the Bernina line. We finish with a surprising view towards Ospizio Bernina taken from the Diavolleza ski slopes.

We only use original sound recordings, without any additional music or commentary.

Maps are added to point out camera locations.
