REOS 086: A summer evening in Ausserberg
Ausserberg lies on the Wallis side of the Bern-Lotschberg-Simplon line that was opened in 1913. This line is an important connection from the Berner Oberland to Southern Switzerland and then onto Italy through the Simplon tunnel.
REOS visited this small station on several summer evenings in July 2003. BLS and SBB trains work on this line including SBB EW IV push-pull passenger trains, BLS EMU’s, short and long freight trains with a variety of motive power including Re 460, Re 465, Re 485, Re 6/6 and Re 4/4. BLS car transporter train shuttles can also be seen as well as a Rolling Road train.
Because the new Lötschberg base tunnel was opened in 2007 these recordings are of a great historical value. The recordings were made using a Digital 8 camera.
