REOS 064: Classic Gotthard 1998

In 1998, REOS visited Switzerland on several occasions when SBB
cargo and passenger divisions were still one operating company. There-
fore this film can be described as "classic". Motive power covers a
variety of duties, with Re6/6 hauled passenger trains and double
headed Re 460 freights. "Banking" locomotives can be witnessed
between Erstfeld and Göschenen on the heaviest freight trains.
The train compositions can also be considered as "classic"; Eurocity
trains composed from Italian, Swiss and German coaches. (some still
sporting the former Eurofima orange livery), the presence of dining
cars and regional trains in green livery with varying trains lengths.
In addition, freight trains have seen significant change with the mix
of wagon types on local "pick up" freights quite noticeable, whilst
intermodal trains carry familiar companies.
We start our film on the south ramp around the Biaschina spirals
during glorious summer weather followed by Chigioggna and Dazio-
Grande, whilst the snow of winter is upon us, as we visit Airolo. A
"classic" freight emerges from the Gotthard tunnel into summer sun-
shine at Göschenen. Next we descend the Wassen spirals to Gurtnellen,
Intschi and the Intschi bridge. Before we finish, we take one last look
at Wassen during the winter months to enjoy some more "Classic
Gotthard" trains.
Recordings were made using a (analogue) Hi-8 camera. The film is
digitally mastered.
On screen maps locate filming positions. We only use original sound
recordings without any commentary or music.
Running time: 60 minutes DVDR.
