REOS 020En: BVZ Zermatt-Bahn in winter

Between Brig, Visp and Zermatt runs the metre gauge railway of the BVZ Zermatt-Bahn. Between Brig and Visp the line runs parallel to the River Rhône. After Visp the line climbs steeply on its way to Zermatt. The train uses a rack and pinion system called "Abt". The recordings begin with nice sunshine and some "old" snow; as we journey along the line , the weather changes dramatically with heavy snowfall. The depth of snow ranges from several inches to over two feet.

From Täsch the road is closed to the public, and anyone who visits Zermatt has to go by train. The recordings from the train will give you a good impression of this particular part of the line.

The recordings were made in February 2000 with a digital camera and are digitally mastered. We only use original sound recordings, without any additional music or commentary. Subtitles provide information of locations and trains.
