REOS 016 En: Brig station in summer

DVDR £ 10,95  € 16,00

Brig, the Cantonal city of Wallis, is situated at the northern entrance of the Simplon tunnel. It is also a major railway junction with standard gauge trains of the SBB and BLS, as well as metre gauge trains of the Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn and Furka-Oberalp-Bahn which depart from the square in front of the main station. This film examines the varied operations around Brig station. We start at the Simplon tunnel entrance before crossing over to the eastside of platform 8 and 9. Here some freight wagons are shunted, whilst track maintenance is carried out. On platform 1, the SBB and BLS give a huge variety of locomotives and rolling stock.

Passing through the station booking hall, we arrive in the square to witness a great deal of shunting as the "Glacier Express" rounds the curve into the platform. From the banks of the River Rhone, a vast array of standard and narrow gauge trains can be seen crossing the bridges. This film demonstrates why the busy junction of Brig is a worthwhile destination for the Swiss railway enthusiast.

On screen maps with camera locations are provided.

The recordings were made in May 1997 and August 1998 with a Hi-8 camera and in the year 2000 with a digital camera. The film is digitally mastered.
